Overview


This course is a comprehensive academic and practical study of massage for sports injuries. This advanced treatment can enhance your client base and provide you with skills to add to other treatments along with the ability to treat sports injuries and those sustained in everyday life. On completion of this course successful students will be awarded a professional certificate and advice on obtaining insurance in order to perform this therapy on paying clients.

This course is offered as:
  • A fast track course, which is 6 days a further assessment day and final exam to suit you, once course work is complete.
  • An 6 week course allowing students to study one day a week followed by an assessment day and final exam.
  • A 12 week evening course allowing students to study 1 evening a week followed by an assessment day and final exam.
You are advised to wear a white or black short sleeved t-shirt and comfortable black trousers and flat shoes.

Entry requirements


An A&P and Swedish massage certificate are required


Your course includes:

  • The history of sports therapy massage including the academic and practical study of the benefits and effects of this therapy.
  • Health, safety and Hygiene
  • Related anatomy and physiology
  • Regional Anatomy - study of constituent parts of a given body region.
  • Applied Anatomy - study of how the body parts function individually and in relation to other body regions.
  • Origin, Insertion and Action of over 50 muscles.
  • Injuries - study of common injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursa and bone and how to assess for each one.
  • Treatment - this will build on prior massage technique.
  • Use of ice (Cryotherapy) in acute injuries - its rationale and method of application.
  • A look at different types of exercises and stretching routines.
  • Pre, post and maintenance sports massage routines
  • You will learn the importance of recognizing contraindications to a therapy.
  • Preparation of the work area consultation, record keeping and medical referral.
  • Your experienced tutor will advise you of a full body treatment
  • You will have the opportunity to perform full body treatments.
  • The course includes the study of after care of your clients
  • Our excellent facilities will give you the best examples of how to conduct an exceptional therapy.
  • You will be given a full course folder included in this course to refer to as you practice this massage and undertake your case studies as part of your assessed course work.
  • You will receive a professional certificate that will allow you to acquire insurance and perform this therapy on paying clients.
